If ever there were a group of people deserving of recognition, it is our Purple Heart recipients. A grateful nation can never fully repay a debt to those who gave so much in defense of our freedom. But that won’t stop us all from trying. With that said, SK Customs releases its Limited Edition, 240th Anniversary Purple Heart Commemorative Colt 1911.
The SK Customs Limited Edition Purple Heart Colt 1911
The Colt 1911 is as iconic and honorable as the men and women who sacrificed so much for our country. So, it makes sense that it would be the foundation of a piece that pays homage to these heroes.
Dating back to 1782 (240 years ago) the Purple Heart was first issued by General George Washington as the Badge of Military Merit. The medal was awarded any time a singular meritorious action was performed. However, in 1932, it was reintroduced as the Purple Heart Medal to commemorate bravery and wounded soldiers.
Building on the Colt 1911 Series 70, in .45 ACP, the Purple Heart Limited Edition features hallmarks of the medal’s history. The high polish frame and slide add to the presentation quality aesthetics of this Purple Heart edition pistol. Likewise, 24K gold plated hardware adds to the eye-catching contrast of the important message portrayed.
On the right side of the slide is intricate flourish engraving, surrounded by a 24K gold plated rope. Inside the rope border is a 24K gold plated scroll with the inscription, “A Grateful Nation Honors and Remembers.” Just behind the cocking serrations is a gold-plated scroll with special edition number, 001 to 240.
The obverse side of the slide features a similar design with two scrolls stating, “All gave some, some gave all.” Additionally, to the rear of the cocking serrations is George Washington’s Coat of Arms.
The top of the slide features the modern Purple Heart with scrolls designating “240th Anniversary” just behind the front sight. Additionally, just forward of the rear sight is George Washington’s Badge of Military Merit and signature. The front sight features an authentic purple sapphire, elegantly adding to the theme.
Finishing out the motif are faux ivory grips with embedded custom-made medallion replicas of the modern-day Purple Heart.
Minted Coin and Proceeds
Each pistol will ship with an uncirculated West Point Minted, National Purple Heart Hall of Honor 2022 Proof Silver Dollar. The silver dollar will feature the West Point “W” mint mark and a certificate of authenticity, signed by the Director of the U.S. Mint.
In addition, SK Customs has partnered with Purple Heart Homes and Purple Heart Integration Project. For this reason, the company will donate a portion of the proceeds raised to each foundation. Likewise, SK Customs will also be donating a pistol to each foundation for their upcoming fundraisers.
