About Dan Chesiak
Dan Chesiak was a renowned artisan and custom grip maker celebrated for crafting genuine ivory and exotic pistol grips—most notably for the Colt Custom Shop and individual collectors.
Craftsmanship & Style: He was widely respected for his meticulous, hands-on “cut-and-try” fitting method, custom-shaping grips directly to individual handguns (such as Colt Single Action Army and 1911 models) rather than producing a one-size-fits-all generic cut
Materials & Signatures: He specialized in real/genuine ivory grips. His handmade sets frequently featured classic ivory
Legacy: Alongside contemporaries like Jim Aliamo (Nutmeg Sports) and Paul Persinger, Chesiak was considered a master of his craft during the height of custom ivory work. His original handmade sets have become rare collector’s items following his passing around late 2020
