This is serial number 14, chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, and one of only 21 rifles created in this extraordinarily limited custom engraving series. It began as one of the finest Winchester Model 1892 Deluxe rifles we could find, then became something dramatically more special.
Before the engraving project began, we went through our Winchester inventory and hand-selected the finest Grade 5/6 exhibition-quality walnut rifles available. There was no interest in building a large production run. The entire point was to start with exceptional rifles and create a tiny group of pieces worthy of the engraving work that followed.
And this rifle absolutely delivers.
The receiver has been covered in deep, hand engraving with beautifully executed Western wildlife scenes surrounded by exceptionally fine scroll and ornamental work. Genuine hand-set gold wire borders frame the receiver scenes, while additional gold accent bands appear at the front of the receiver and muzzle.
The left side receiver depicts a commanding bighorn sheep in a circular panel, with additional wildlife imagery and extensive surrounding scrollwork. The right side carries a detailed woodland scene featuring whitetail deer, again surrounded by finely cut ornamental engraving and framed with gold wire.
Even areas most manufacturers would leave untouched received attention. The trigger, lever, forearm cap, receiver borders, and other surfaces carry additional engraving, while the top of the receiver features a beautifully engraved bull moose medallion surrounded by a hand-set gold border.
The wood deserves its own paragraph. This rifle wears the kind of Grade 5/6 exhibition walnut that stops you before you ever get to the engraving. The buttstock displays dramatic figure, deep contrast, broad flowing mineral streaking, and fiddleback that continues through the wrist. The forearm carries matching figure and color. This is exactly why these rifles were individually hand-picked before the custom work began.Â
Winchester’s high-polish blue provides the perfect backdrop for the engraving and gold work. Under good light, the receiver and barrel have the deep, almost liquid appearance you expect from a properly polished premium Winchester, while the satin-finished exhibition walnut keeps the rifle from becoming visually overdone.
This is not a catalog commemorative with cosmetic laser work. It is a limited run of , hand-engraved custom project built from hand-selected Winchester Deluxe rifles, and only 21 examples were produced in .44 Magnum.
Serial #14 remains NEW IN THE BOX and comes from our climate-controlled inventory. Please study the photographs closely – the images show the actual rifle being offered today.
